Pokemon Sword and Shield, the new games in the main series Pokemon series were just announced around yesterday, for me at least. While I have been out of town and had limited access to the internet I did manage to watch the Pokemon Direct and get my first look at the new games and from what we have so far I'm looking froward to it. I'd rather reserve judgement until I have the game and play it but I'm looking forward to it. And yes, I have seen the new Female Pokemon and I love her design and all the fan art I've seen of her. And yes, I have seen all the lewd ones that poped up that same day. You are all thirsty as fuck and I love it. This might actually be the first time I play a Pokemon game as a girl on my first play though, I love her that much. No promises though. And of course a new game means new Pokemon. Weather I like these Pokemon only time will tell but while I was thinking about the new Pokemon another thought came into my mind, why don't I talk about my favourite Pokemon from each gen? But if I did that people might also want to know what my least favourite's are. Okay, maybe your not that interested in what my least favourites are but either way I just though this might be a fun little thing to do. Of course if you've been following me for any amount of time you probably know what most of these will be, especially my favourite Gen 3 Pokemon. Oh and most of these are based of there design more than game play but I am still taking that into consideration.
Gen One Favourite: Dragonair.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/93/148Dragonair.png/250px-148Dragonair.png
Yeah, let's just say this is only one of the many serpent based Pokemon your going to see on this. Not so suttble foreshadowing. But yeah starting of is the Gen One Dragon Serpent Dragonair. For as much shit as I give Gen One I do genuinely like some of the original 151 Pokemon and one of the first I always think of is the second Pokemon in the Dratin line Dragonair. It's a long blue and beautiful Dragon serpent that's 13'01" in height making it one of the longest serpent Pokemon and even if it is a pretty basic design it's still a really effective one. It being a serpent isn't the only reason I like it more than it's evolution Dragonite because truth be told I do really like Dragonite. I think it's a cute Pokemon and for a while that was my favourite of Gen One. But as I grew older I found myself leaning more towards the blue serpent more than the chubby dragon. I wounder why that is! Even if Dragonite is a better Pokemon stat wise Dragonair is still a decent Pokemon in combat having good attack for a mid evolution and an alright move pool even if you do have to go out of your way for some of it's better moves like blizzard and thunder by using TM's. But since I'm not a competitive Pokemon player that spends hours breading my Pokemon for the perfect IV's or EV's and the right nature when I could be doing better things with my time I'm fine with the way my long Dragon noddle is right now.
Gen One Least Favourite: Muk.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/7c/089Muk.png/250px-089Muk.png
I was going to say Rattata because it's just a generic purple rat but it's evolution Raticate is actually pretty cool so I decided to let it slip. Muk is a different story. It is nothing more than a pile of sludge. No, not just that it feels like it's not even an improvement over Grimer. It just feel like a bigger Grimer. I know that sounds hypocritical considering I just got done praising Dragonair when it's not that majorly different from it's pre evolved form Dratini but at least with that Pokemon I actually like it's design in both it's evolved and pre evolved forms. Muk however I don't like it or it's pre evolved form Grimer because there designs are just gross to look at. They are just piles of sludge and Muk is a misrible pile of sludge with beddy eyes and that makes it worse. I fail to see how people can say Garbador is one of the worst because it's literal trash when Muk has existed for longer and is the laziest. And it's Alolan form isn't much better either since all they did was just make it multi coloured and throw on some pepples and called it a day! The only thing I like about Muk is that it is actually a somewhat strong Pokemon having high special defence and attack and good moves.
Gen Two Favourite: Ho-Oh.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/67/250Ho-Oh.png/250px-250Ho-Oh.png
I never said I was excluding legendary Pokemon. Some people say Lugia is there favourite, mostly because of the second movie, but I have always been more of a fan of Ho-Oh instead. The red and white body with the golden crown like hair and tail with the faded in green wings make for a better design to look at. It just looks more noble and grand compared to Lugia. And of course since it is a legendary Pokemon it's stats are insanely high with it's best being it's Attack and Special Defence and a massive move pool including it's signature move Sacred Flames. But there's also another reason why I love Ho-Oh. Heart Gold was my first Pokemon game. I had just hit age 13 and was starting high school but before the new year began I decided to try out my first Pokemon game since I had missed out on the games as a kid and I loved it and as many of you know Ho-Oh is the mascot legendary of Gold and it's remake Heart Gold. I spent a total of 500 hours in that game alone across 2010. I don't have that save file anymore but Ho-Oh was almost always in my party and was one of the strongest. So yeah, I kind of have a bit of a personal attachment to Ho-Oh. Hey I never said this journal wasn't going to be personal. I mean you are reading a opinionated journal about something subjective after all.
Gen Two Least Favourite: Unown.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/77/201Unown.png/250px-201Unown.png
I will give them credit they at least tried to make Unown an interesting Pokemon by having 28 different variants based of the Latin alphabet but outside of that Unown is a bad Pokemon. None of the variants look that good in any way yet your expected to catch one of each variant for... Well I don't know what you get for getting all of them since who the hell would want to fill there PC boxes with these things? And that's not even taking into consideration how worthless it is in combat having an abysmal stat total even worse than most baby Pokemon and do you know how many moves this thing can learn? One! Only one move and it's hidden power, a move so inconsistent you might as well be using a one hit KO move.
Gen Three Favourite: Milotic.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/36/350Milotic.png/250px-350Milotic.png
And now the moment you have been waiting for. Honestly though if you didn't expect the Pokemon I made the main Pokemon of my gender swapped persona Mikaela to be my favourite Gen Three Pokemon then I don't know what you were expecting. There are a lot of reasons why I love Milotic. It's a serpent Pokemon (no shit right), it's got an beautiful and elegant design, it's actually a good Pokemon stat wise and move wise and it's shiny is one of my personal favourites. Most of my favourite shiny variants I love I am never able to get my hands on but Milotic I actually do have and it was traded to me by a friend. Oh and this isn't really a reason why I love it but it's the only serpent Pokemon that can learn hypnosis. Yeah, would you believe me if I told you something that's so well known for serpents to have Milotic is the only one who has it? I am proud to make this Pokemon my OC's main Pokemon and even if Sword and Shield adds a Pokemon I love more than Milotic this girl is still staying as Mikaela's even if the method of evolving Feebas into Milotic is always different between games and a head ache to get use to.
Gen Three Least Favourite: Luvdisc.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/1/1d/370Luvdisc.png/250px-370Luvdisc.png
I'll be honest, it was really hard for me to pick a Pokemon from Gen Three that I actually hated because this gen has some of my personal favourite Pokemon. Milotic, Serviper, Absol, The Starters and Legendaries. But then you got Pokemon like Luvdisc who's like that one child in a family that even there mother wouldn't want to see outside of family gatherings. To far maybe? In any case Luvdisc is only good for one thing and one thing only, harvesting the heart scales they have a %50 chance of having when you catch one. I mean just look at it, it's a pretty plane looking Pokemon and while it does have a good speed stat that doesn't matter much when everything else is about as good as a Playstation based Smash Bro's styled fighting game. The Pokedex mentions that any couple who encounters this Pokemon in the ocean are promised everlasting love but even if I did end up getting a girlfriend I'd rather just go out to an expensive dinner location and give them an overly shiny and tasteless looking ring than this Pokemon any day.
Gen Four Favourite: Lucario.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/d7/448Lucario.png/250px-448Lucario.png
I know saying Lucario is your favourite Pokemon is one of the most cliche things ever but I honestly do genuinely really love Lucario. It's even more ironic that it's part of my second least favourite Pokemon Type, fighting. I know fighting type Pokemon are meant to have big and huge mussels but if Pokemon ever did exist there are few Pokemon I would want to own or be given less than half of the fighting types. The overly exaggerated mussels and features make me go "Eghh". Lucario is an exception to this and I'm happy for that and it's design is really cool and doesn't make me want to vomit. It also helps that it's got good stats in both attack and special attack, especially when you Mega Evolve it. For a while Lucario was actually my main in Super Smash Bro's because of the whole aura mechanic where he gets stronger the more damage he has. And of course I can't talk about Lucario without also bringing up the one from the Pokemon Movie Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. Something I should say right now is that I rarely get involved with anything relating to Pokemon outside of the games but one day I watched this movie and it was honestly a really good movie. I'm not going to spoil it for people who haven't seen it but the Lucario in this film was once really close to a human friend hundreds of years ago before being sealed and let's just say Lucario doesn't have a very good opinion on humans after being freed and feeling like he was betrayed and has doubts about the relationship between Ash and Pickachu if it's even genuine. He doesn't try to brainwash humans or anything like Mewtwo in the first movie but Lucario as a character in the movie is one of the best.
Gen Four Least Favourite: Tangrowth.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/32/465Tangrowth.png/250px-465Tangrowth.png
New evolution's being given to old Pokemon can really help out a Pokemon I find because it can mean Pokemon I once didn't like can get new designs and I might end up liking them. Well, Tangrowth isn't one of them. Most of what I said about Muk applies to Tangrowth two so sorry if this part is short. Of course that also means the good stuff I said about Muk having good stats also applies but I never said this was mainly about stats. It's just a mass of vines with two eyeballs and freakish long hands. I could draw that same design in just five minuets and I'm not even a drawer!
Gen Five Favourite: Serperior.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/b7/497Serperior.png/250px-497Serperior.png
So I've just realised we are up to gen five and I haven't even put a starter Pokemon on here. Well here it is now. Oh, and it's another serpent Pokemon. Big shock, I know. True confession I never picked Snivy when I first played Pokemon Black. I had picked a fire type in Heart Gold and a grass in Platinum so picking Osowhat seemed appropriate and I'm glad I did because I love Samuraot but if I could I would go back and pick Snivy after seeing it's final evolution Serperior! I love how it looks as if it's shedding it's skin and wearing it as a coat and it gives this Pokemon a more royal appearance than most and I also like how it's evolutionary line is based of how some snakes do start out with legs but lose them as they get older. One complaint I see people always have is that it has bad stats and while I won't act like that's not true is it really that bad? I mean it's got high defence and special defence so it can take a hit or two. You guys do know that most grass types are made to be defensive right? That's why I honestly groan and roll my eyes whenever someone says Chickorita is the worst starter Pokemon because it's like they are using it wrong.
Gen Five Least Favourite: Watchog
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/3e/505Watchog.png/250px-505Watchog.png
Were you expecting Garbador or Vaniliux or something? I hope not because Watchog is far worse than any of those Pokemon everyone loves to hate. And besides I write these opinionated journals based on what I think, not what others think. When I first saw Watchog I honestly went "What in gods name am I looking at right now!?" The thing is it's pre evolved form Patrat really isn't that bad. I mean yeah it is the typical rodent Pokemon of this gen but honestly I kind of like it. Once it evolves into Watchog though it's like not even the same species anymore! What the hell is this design? I mean it's got crazy blood shot eyes and yellow stripes painted in a way that makes it look like a safety vest, no really what am I looking at? Oh, and it has bad stats. Shocker, I know.
Gen Six Favourite: Delphox.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/21/655Delphox.png/250px-655Delphox.png
When I tell people my honest opinion on Delphox the reaction I get is one of genuine surprise because there are a lot of people out there that say Delphox is one of the worst Pokemon. And while I respect people's opinion I always just go "Really? THIS is the worst Pokemon? In the same game that has a fucking key ring as Pokemon?" Oh yeah, spoilers for my least favourite by the way. Because to me Delphox is one of the best Pokemon of X and Y. I honestly really like the mage inspired design and maybe it's just because I like fox's in general and it's shiny kind of make it look like a witch. And honestly after three games where the fire starter was part Fighting type I was just so happy to have Delphox finally break that trend. Not to mention it's special attack and special defence are really high and appropriately so for what's basically a wizard Pokemon. I'm probably the only person in the fanbase that likes Delphox enough to keep picking it every time I play Pokemon X and that's fine with me.
Gen Six Least Favourite: Klefki
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/0/04/707Klefki.png/250px-707Klefki.png
I hesitated to put Klefki on here because this Pokemon is kind of like a guilty pleasure for me especially when you consider how good it is in game but lets be honest, Klefki design wise is a terrible Pokemon. I know inanimate object Pokemon are a common thing in the series but if they can make a chandler awesome with Chandalure then why can't they make a key chain? Especially considering we have Agislash in this same game and that things a Sword and Shield in one! Insert you joke about how Gen Six predicted the new Pokemon games here. Right now it feels like I'm just looking at a set of keys and nothing else. Again, in game play it's actually really good. Because of it's typeing of Steal and Fairy it's only real weekness is fire but if I'm going to use an inanimate object Pokemon Chanderlure and Agislash will always be my preferred picks.
Gen Seven Favourite: Lunala.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/9d/792Lunala.png/250px-792Lunala.png
This was my soul reason for choosing Moon and Ultra Moon over Sun and Ultra Sun. However I didn't expect it to be my number one favourite Pokemon out of all the great and well designed Pokemon of Gen Seven. Yes, I said I liked the Pokemon of gen Seven. No I'm not going to apologise! Lunala is this big cosmic moon bat who looks like the queen of the night or something as well as being two of my favourite types in the series, Ghost and Psychic. I say queen because despite not having a shown gender in game the Pokedex does imply that it is a girl. Not to mention if you played though the games story and got so attached to the character Lille like I did then this Pokemon means a lot more to you from a story perspective than you might think considering her Cosmog becomes the Lunala you get (or Solgaleo if you have Sun version.) And of course being a legendary Pokemon it has very high stats and powerful moves. It even has it's own Z Move which is honestly one of the best looking in the game I find. Long story short, I love Lunala, it has a really cool design, it means a lot to me from a story perspective and nothing anyone can say about Gen Seven will ever change my love for this Pokemon.
Gen Seven Least Favourite: Incineroar.
https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/27/727Incineroar.png/250px-727Incineroar.png
As I write why I don't like what might be the most popular Pokemon in Sun and Moon I can at least look on the bright side. When the police find my lifeless body in a shallow ditch tomorrow morning they will see this journal and know what my cause of death was. Yes, I do not like Incineroar in any capacity. And it really sucks two because I actually like it's pre evolved form Litten. I mean I was on the Popplio Defence Squad from day one back when it was the cool thing to hate Popplio but I always did kind of like Litten. Once it became Incineroar though it's like it becomes a different Pokemon entirely and when I saw it I went "Welp, I'm glad I'm choosing Popplio as my starter! I'll take the singing seal anyday." Remember how I said I didn't like a lot of the muscular Pokemon earlier? Well while Incineroar isn't so bad in that regard I'm still not into how it looks. I'm glad it's not another Fire Fighting type starter but even still that doesn't excuse it. It's meant to be based of a wrestler but the only thing related to wrestling I can see in it's design is the belt. And it's limbs don't even look like it's fit for wrestling in the first place with how skinny they are. I will say though that it is a decent Pokemon in game with a high attack stat but that's as far as my praise will go. And people still wounder why I never play this thing in Smash Bro's Ultimate.
And that's it. That is all my favourite and least favourite Pokemon from each generation. I can't stress enough how this is all just purely my own opinion and if I said anything bad about a Pokemon you like (which given how I said Incineroar is my least favourite Sun and Moon Pokemon won't surprise me) that does not mean I'm saying you should hate that Pokemon two. But you know there are so many Pokemon out there that I love that it was hard for me to pick only one Pokemon from each generation since of course there are going to be some I love more than others. Here's to Pokemon Sword and Shied and the Pokemon you bring to the already large roster of monsters. And here's hoping you don't get treated by the fan base the same way they treated Black and White hating it when it first came but now everyone saying that they love it and that they have always loved it. Then again that's been happening since Ruby and Sapphire so it wouldn't surprise me.
